Pin Old
old PSU 20 pin doesnt fit new MOBO 24 pin?
i bought a new mobo and found out its 24pin instead of 20 pin(old mobo) and my PSU is a 20 pin.
i read that it is still possible to fit the 20 pin into a 24 pin w/o a convertor.please advice
ok thanks for the insight i was gonna get a 24 pin psu…
anyways i dun do graphics intensive
im running on my mobo built-in VGA so no worries for me
The extra 4 pins on the 24-pin motherboard connector is for delivering power to the PCI-Express 16x slot.
If you are not running a particularly power-hungry video card, the 20-pin ATX PSU will actually work. You can just plug it into the 24-pin connector leaving the 4 extra pin positions unoccupied: http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#20into24
If you are running a PCI-Express graphics card that needs more than 75W of power (such as a 9600GT), it’s a good idea to get a 24-pin PSU. If you are running a lower-end video card like the 8600GT that draws a measly 50W max, the 20-pin PSU will work.
Hope this helps.
