Professional Cello
How much do professional cello players get payed to play?
Depends. In the small professional orchestra I work for the section cello players get paid about $30000/ year and the principal about $40000. In the top orchestras in the US they can get paid more than $100000. Of course, that also depends on where the orchestra is – in New York the New York Phil is going to pay more because it is really expensive to live in NYC. Same with LA. But someone might have a nice job in a middle level orchestra in the mid-West earning about $50000-$75000 because it is cheaper to live in that city. Some “professionals” play wedding, receptions, etc. at maybe $75/hour depending on the type of event, length, travel, etc.
PS. It is spelled “paid”.
