plz help me i need more information on the triple strung harp
this is what i have “Triple string harps were first discovered in Italy during the late 16th century. The triple string harp has 3 rows of strings”
i need more like maybe a bit about who played it and anything elsee would be great thanks:)
I wouldn’t phrase it as “harps were discovered”…discovery has to do with finding something that was already in existence, but previously unknown–for instance, Alexander Fleming discovering penicillin in 1928, or Clyde Tombaugh discovering the planet Pluto in 1930. I’d suggest “…harps were invented in Italy.”
Also, the usual name of such a harp is “triple-strung”–you use the expression “triple-string harp” in your description, but “triple-strung” is the way it’s usually phrased.
I’d suggest looking at the harp tradition of Wales–the Welsh triple harp tradition became highly developed in the eighteenth century, building on the previously existing single-course harp tradition that dates back to the fourteenth century. There are even now Welsh harpers who can trace their teacher-student lineage back that far! But the style that the Welsh players made famous is that of the triple-strung harp. The advantage of it is that the hands can play two simultaneous melody lines, or switch freely between melody and bass accompaniment. The third set of strings runs inside the outer two sets, and the harper reaches inside to pluck one of those. The inner set functions much like the black keys on a piano, so one can play in different keys.
Two of the best modern players of the Welsh triple harp are Robin Huw Bowen and Cheryl Ann Fulton.
